First up we have some detailed Model Y Photos from Eric Weaver. He shows the Model Y interior, Model Y exterior, Model Y under storage compartments, Model Y cargo space, Model Y wheels, and more!
Then we have lots of confirmations thanks to the Tesla Model Y Owner’s Manual, and Model Y delivery recipient SilverSmith on Tesla Motors Club.
The Tesla Model Y officially has a Powered Hatchback. To open the Model Y liftgate, you can use the open button on the touchscreen, double click trunk button on the key fob, touch the trunk button in the app, or when it’s unlocked, press the switch under the trunk handle
On top of this, you can customize the opening height on the Model Y liftgate for lower ceilings.
To do so, open the liftgate, manually power or raise it to the desired height, press and hold the liftgate button for two seconds, confirm with the chime, and it’ll remember that position for the future. Helpful in low ceiling situations.
Here are some detailed Model Y measurements for the Model Y Trunk space:
Hatch opening is 27.5” tall (698.5mm)
Along the top of the 2nd-row seats is 45” (1143mm)
Center Seat width is 11.5” (292mm). The post takes up around 2.5”, so if you’re putting something there, that’ll cut into space
Depth from 2nd-row ground to the edge of the trunk is 44”
Wheel hub to wheel hub in the trunk is 37” (640mm)
Depth of Top of second-row seats to the back is 33”
84” from the passenger seat as forward as possible to hatchback lip
73” from driver seat as back as possible to the hatchback
92” diagonal from the back of passenger seat to the opposite corner of the trunk
Then the Model Y under storage has two compartments:
First is in the very back, very deep. The second is closer to the seats, still fairly deep, but maybe 1/4 or 1/3rd of the large under storage compartment. On top of this there are side storage compartments as well
The Model Y Frunk is not powered, but is larger than the Model 3 and has a donut seal
The Tesla Model Y officially includes wireless charging.
Model Y Wireless Charging:
-Qi-enabled charger at up to 15W of power, room for two phones side by side.
-Charges slower when two phones are on there.
There is also officially USB-C in the Model Y:
-Single USB C port in the front, single USB A. Comes with a wireless charging pad included that uses that port
-Two USB-C ports in the back
-12V power socket under the armrest in the center console
The Model Y second-row seats all fold flat.
-They all fold flat, independently, powered to go down
-64/40 split to fold them down, but you can customize that. Left seat holds the center with a post
-Looking in from the back, the left and center seats fold down when you use the bottom on the left
-You can also only fold down the center if you choose, with the switch on the back of the center seat
-Or just fold the right seat with the switch on the right.
The Model Y has power folding back seats as well.
-You can fold them using the switches in the trunk.
-Second-row seats are the same width as the Model 3 at 51 1/4 inches
-Center seat has a headrest that goes up and down
The Model Y heated seats are included in the front and rear.
No Model Y Homelink included - Have to be ordered after the fact for $300
No Model Y cargo shelf or Model Y cargo cover, or attachments to install it there later
No Model Y towing. There is a spot where it looks like you could add a Model Y tow hitch or tow receiver, but there is no hidden receiver hitch there.
The Seats in the Model Y vs Model 3 sit 3.5” taller.
The Model Y build quality seems to be improved with fewer panel gaps, and quieter road noise.
There is officially No Model Y heated steering wheel. Just the same wheel as Model 3.
Charging bag only includes the standard 120V plug, no NEMA 14-50 like the Model 3 used to
No AM Radio, but FM is included
No track mode
The Model Y also includes a Heat pump which should improve efficiency in colder climates.
