About 3 days ago, Tesla unveiled its incredibly ambitious, and polarizing pickup truck: the Cybertruck. Elon Musk had built up lots of suspense on Twitter saying that it will look like nothing we’ve seen before, and will be straight out of Blade Runner, and he absolutely delivered.
The reason this Tesla Pickup looks so weird is that Tesla decided to build the outside like an exoskeleton. So rather than having a Frame and a body on top of it, they were able to create more space inside and make it cheaper by literally making the frame and body the same thing.
The Tesla Cybertruck outside exoskeleton is built out of Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel and is bulletproof, and as we saw at the event, sledgehammer proof. The glass windows are what they are calling Tesla armor glass.
In any case. The back cover of the truck opens up in a very cool way, to reveal the large bed, which contributes to the truck’s massive 100 cubic feet of cargo space.
Additionally, the truck has an adaptive air suspension that allows adjustment on the fly.
Per usual, the cybertruck Is controlled by one massive touchscreen, and this time it’s in line with the Model 3 and Model Y with a horizontal touchscreen, but it’s a little bigger at 17 inches.
The Cybertruck seats 6, it also will feature autopilot and the Tesla full self-driving upgrade for an extra $7000 which is the same as all of their cars.
It starts at $39,900. You’ll notice that this is about the same starting price as the Tesla Model 3, but it actually gets a little more range, for a much larger vehicle. Most people speculate that by using this exoskeleton structure, they save a TON of money, and that’s how it can be priced so competitively, and around the same price as their other, much smaller cars.
So the full Tesla Cybertruck lineup includes 3 variants. The first is the single motor RWD version at $39,900
It will have a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds, a range of 250+ miles, and a towing capacity of 7500+ pounds.
The Dual Motor AWD is $49,000 and will have a 0-60 of 4.5 seconds, a rang3 of 300+ miles, and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
And lastly, the tri-motor AWD at $69,900, which will have a 0-60 of 2.9 seconds, a range of 500+ miles, and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.
Keep in mind, 500 miles of range is crazy, and the highest any company, including Tesla, has put out for an electric car.
But this cybertruck will have 500 miles of range, for a similar price about $10k dollars cheaper than the Model S which gets about 373 miles of range.
First off, The rearview mirror is actually a rearview camera.
Second, the autopilot camera appears to be built into the fenders.
The retractable cover for the bed is super cool, and they barely showed it at the event.
The truck will feature a light bar on top of the truck as well as a bar for the headlights.
There is a secondary set of brake lights when the tailgate is opened since the normal brake lights are on a moving part of the truck.
Right now, if you want to order a Tesla Cybertruck, you can do so by going to tesla.com/cybertruck and putting down a $100 fully-refundable deposit.
Yesterday, Elon confirmed on Twitter that there has been 146,000 cybertruck order so far, and that was only after 2 days. Now it's up to 200K orders.
So, this design is very polarizing. People either love it or hate it. But one thing is for sure, this thing is going to sell.
Production for the Cybertruck will begin in late 2021, and the tri-motor will begin in late 2022.
I’m excited to see what comes of this crazy looking futuristic, feature-packed truck, but in the meantime, the Model Y is next on Tesla’s release schedule, and I can’t wait for that.
For lots more Tesla videos, and specifically Model Y videos since that’s the car I will be getting when it comes out next year, make sure you’re subscribed to this channel. Additionally, if you love Tesla, I have a podcast called Tesla Regular which is linked above.
Thanks so much for watching, and I’ll see you on the next video.
