Getting a marriage license and performing a wedding ceremony are next to impossible in Los Angeles right now. My wedding was scheduled for May 3rd, and had to be canceled, so we decided to figure out how to do it, with our closest option being Arizona.
We drove there are back in one day and documented our entire trip in the Tesla Model Y. We drove about 700 miles in total round trip, and stopped 4 times to charge at Tesla superchargers along the route.
It was our first Model Y road trip, and overall it was a success, however, I don't completely recommend traveling that many miles in one day if you can prevent it!
Autopilot makes driving a breeze, however, we did have quite a bit of range loss on the drive back, and ended up having to stop an extra time to charge. It is all part of the learning curve that comes with being a new Tesla owner on a road trip.
The Model Y range is listed at 316 miles, in ideal circumstances. In our testing, since we had the air conditioning going, on flat ground, with high winds, at high speeds, I think we had everything working against us for the best range on the way back.
Shoutout to my new wife for putting up with me talking about Tesla throughout this day!

@Anton Vilinskiy Yes I too have been monitoring Model Y referrals and don't see any way to get supercharger credit. Has Tesla discontinued it for the Model Y? Do they plan to reinstate it? When?

@5:51 & @10:14 ... Thank you for mentioning price/cost & in real time situation. ALWAYS have wondered about that & didn't see anyone really ever talking about it. For those who don't have a Tesla &/or who are watching, considering (neither of which would have the reference or knowledge themselves, of use.. yet) definitely a concern & subject commonly skipped right over. Idk, maybe those showing different situations don't even think about that OR assume people already have one, so are already aware?) Overall, do you have to have an account with some sep. Tesla/charger system set up w/ pre-paid funds available? Is it directly linked to car itself OR your bank, w/ credit card already attached to? Is payment automatically taken (w/ each transaction/charge-up OR... is it charged per 'trip', at end.. only once you return to 'home'?) OR... like a gas station, is it a 'swipe your card' each time, per use. How would someone else borrowing your car or something... charge it? Obviously there's no one at the charging stations so... no cash/credit only, I assume? Just a couple things that make ya go, hmmm.. well, makes me anyway. lol :) Thanks for sharing. Oh & just curious what your cruise-control settings are at (for the option regarding how many car lengths to leave between you, in front) ? Was wondering, if reduced to say, "1" or "1.5".... would it then, in full driving/adaptive.. lessen some of those huge gaps you experience & esp those super early hard breaking times resulting in that rear-view close up panic, seeing someone else's.. bumper.. ? Just a thought. ~ CONGRATS Mr & Mrs. Shaw! :) No matter how, where, when it's done, the most important aspect is just you 2 being happy!

On a regular basis it is. For a road trip it seems best to start at 100%, and then do 80-90% for the rest of the journey

Congratulations Jessica and Ryan! Wishing you both many years of happiness. Liked the video. Don't own a Tesla yet, but trying to talk my wife into one. I'm do for my next car in a year or so. Going from Accord. Undecided between the model 3 and model Y. The 3 is more affordable I think, but the Y's cargo space seems better. Well, thanks for sharing your wedding and model Y experience with us!🍾🥂🍰🎉

Mazel Tov. I went on my first road trip last weekend as well, only 600 miles. I averaged 333 WH/m for all highway driving on autopilot. Texas is pretty flat, and was kind of surprised at that rate. Highways in Texas are 75 mph outside of major cities. In city highway or street driving I average 250 - 270 WH/m. Either way - autopilot and supercharging is amazing. Congratulations bro. You finally have a video my wife wanted to watch 😂 I think the route back range loss has to do with battery conditioning. I noticed that after I punched in the re-route to supercharger on auto-pilot, my battery began discharging heavily for the 10 miles before I arrived. Simple math 333 WH/mile is 3 miles/KWatt. I believe it is a 78 KW battery, so that would give me 234 highway miles. For me to be in the 315 mileage range, I need to average around 250 WH/m. It may seem misleading from Tesla on the range claims, but in all fairness - every car manufacturer does this. I spent a total of $12.36 to travel 613 miles. Even at today’s gas prices, that is about 1/3 the cost of a traditional sedan mpg.

So lucky the Superchargers by me are only 150kw and I charge between 60-80kw even with preconditioning battery in Pennsylvania never had that trunk issue on my Y

Hi Ryan. First off, congrats on your wedding. Secondly, I just wanted to ask...I'm not sure if you were able to get a chance to drive a Y with regular wheels (not the performance). I know you have the performance version. I just wanna know you're take on the ride quality. I'd rather have a more comfortable ride rather than a harsh one if that's the case with the performance. Thanks.

Congratulations. I loved the video! Just a protip, it is rarely worth it to charge to 100%. You will save more time by charging it to 80% and just stop at another supercharger for a quick top-up. Can't wait to see more videos like this :)
507Kan
507Kan 5 oy oldin
Thomas D - also a good idea to set minimal battery allowed to 20% (and max 80% as you said) that way driver/passengers won’t get range anxiety panic attacks, will save a lot of time in a long trip even if one has to stop at a few more stops, also charging battery up to 80% max and not letting it get below 20% is good for battery

Congrats...best wishes for many years of health and happiness! Btw..I can fool the sensor in my Mercedes for keeping a hand on the wheel by wedging a small, partially filled plastic water bottle in a spoke of the steering wheel. Of course I'm still focused on the road but it eliminates the annoying nagging on a highways that require little steering input.

The 700 miles were in one direction or both together? End of January we were driving from South of Germany to Denmark for wedding. This was trip about 1.800 km (about 1.120 miles) both directions added together. But before and after I had also drive to work than bring her to Frankfurt airport and drive more again. Within 5 days about 3.000 km (1.865 miles) and very few sleep. But finally we had been married even after she had to fly to China where she still waits for the new visa. Hardest thing for me was no Autopilot features for help and fuel was much more expensive than with an electric car. Now have to wait for GF4 starting production to get a Model Y Performance with new long range battery. So hard to wait ... .

Congrats on the marriage. Having done multiple 1000+ miles, I have learned that when charging to 80%+ that you spend a lot of time waiting on charging. I tend to plan a stop every 150 to 180 miles. Also try to have around 15% battery left. If you keep your charge target at 60% to max 65% you will easily cut your total stop time for charging by half or more. In most cases I am stopping for 10 to 15 minutes and tend use the time to get out and move around. My most common trip is 650 miles and normally it wants me to stop and charge 2x for 40 minutes and 30 minutes. For total of 1 hour and 10 minutes. But if I make 3 starting at 80% battery and charge to 65% I find I have stop times of 10 minutes, 15 minutes and 15 minutes or total of 40 minutes saving me total of 30 minutes charging. A better route planner is your best friend. You can customize better route planner, where as Tesla is going to want to use stops that use about 80% of your usable range.

Ryan, congratulations!! But you made a slight misstatement. On any round-trip trip, flat ground is better than hilly for mileage, even without regen, due to fact that the uphill losses are never 100% recaptured, never mind a net add, so you didn’t actually have “worst case” conditions. For your wedding day!
