The Model Y design is largely taken from the Model 3 with over 70% of its parts being exactly the same, and the size being about 10% larger. It's the first Tesla Crossover SUV
According to @MacBenTosh on twitter who is a Model X owner that got to sit in a Model Y, the Model Y headroom is “maybe 1-2” less than the X”. Additionally, he said that he is 6’6” and had great legroom and headroom.
The Model Y has a power liftgate hatchback and Tesla says the Model Y will have 66 cu. feet of cargo space.
There is even an option to have 7 seats in the Tesla Model Y.
The design is very simplistic with all options being controlled by either the 2 steering wheel scroll wheels, or the beautiful 15-inch touchscreen mounted in the middle of the dashboard. One notable difference is that the model Y glass roof. It features a much larger panoramic glass roof.
If you’re wondering about the Model Y Range, Model Y Speed, Model Y 0-60, or Model Y Performance, here is all of your info!
The standard range Model Y will likely start at $40,990 and will get 230 miles of range, a 0-60 of 5.9 seconds, and a top speed of 120 mph.
At $52,990 is the Tesla Model Y All wheel drive, dual motor, long-range, which gets 315 miles of range, a 0-60 of 4.8 seconds, and a top speed of 135mph.
Then, at $60,990 is the Tesla Model Y performance. It gets the same 315 miles of range, a top speed of 145mph, and a 0-60 of 3.5 seconds.
And then optionally, there is the “Performance Upgrade”. Top speed up to 155mph, 21” Uberturbine wheels, the performance brakes, lowered suspension, and aluminum alloy pedals. In turn however, your total range is 280 miles.
For the interior, there are two options. The All Black interior, at no extra cost includes many features.
The White interior includes “three independently folding 2nd-row seats, So for $1000, you can choose any three of the seats to fold down.
For the standard range Model Y releasing in early 2021, we can expect the partial premium interior which includes everything in the premium interior but a slightly downgraded sound system and no LED fog lamps.
Regarding Tesla Model Y Safety, the Model 3 has an overall NHTSA 5 star rating, and Tesla says that the Model Y will be no different and that it’ll be the safest vehicle in its class, getting 5 stars in every category.
The Model Y paint options are the standard white, Solid black, midnight silver metallic, Deep blue metallic, or red multi-coat for $2000 dollars.
The Model Y wheels are the 19” Gemini Wheels, and for $2000 more, you can upgrade to the 20” induction wheels.
Then, if you do the performance upgrade, you’ll receive the 21” uberturbine wheels.
In the Model Y Autopilot is included standard on all Tesla’s now, and that officially “enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane.
For an extra $7000, you can add what Tesla now calls Full Self Driving. Full self-driving includes navigate on autopilot, which will drive completely autonomously, with supervision on the freeway.
It also includes autopark which parks, and parallel parks for you, smart summon, where the car drives to you like a personal valet in a parking lot.
Superchargers are exclusive to Tesla, and they are the worlds fastest charging stations that cars are able to use, providing an 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes. With their new, even faster chargers coming online, Tesla says that the Model Y can charge up to 158 miles in as little as 15 minutes.
The Tesla Model Y key is an NFC Card and your smartphone. You can control nearly everything in the Tesla app.
The Electric Model Y is indeed fully electric, so it comes with all the benefits of fully electric cars including zero emissions, instant torque, it’s quiet, no transmission, no oil changes, no gas fill-ups.
The Model Y will feature Software updates from Tesla bringing new features periodically over the car’s built-in Wifi or LTE.
If you want to order a Model Y, you can do so on Tesla’s website with a $100 non-refundable order fee.

This is what I've been waiting for, the perfect Tesla for camping with hatchback, fully reclining seats and glass ceiling! I'm a travel RN covering all of CA and I think this model will be great for long road trips with increased safety. CAn't wait for 2021!

Nice overview with really good information. Thanks. I especially like the overview of the autopilot and self-driving features, as I have been a bit confused about what features are in each. Still trying to decide whether to get the self-drive now, although I did include it in my initial order. I wish I had seen this before I ordered my Long Range Y about 10 days ago so we both could have gotten the 1000 mi charging.

Thanks for watching! Luckily the FSD is a software update that you can add later. And no worries about the referral link. It actually doesn't work yet for the Model Y anyway

Ryan Shaw from what I’ve been seeing Tesla’s are taking down innocent houses and garages. Just parking the computer in the garage is enough to burn a house down. It’s not worth. The autopilot isn’t ready to be in public hands, yet it is. So Now people crashing burning in these cars and dying. I wish they get these things off the roads or keep them for overseas. Having them here is just dangerous at this point. Bumpers fall off in the rain, they are ugly as sin, paints wrong , all type of just ISSUES !

Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 7 oy oldin
You’re very wrong. It’s about 7 inches taller than the model 3, 2 inches longer, and 1.6 inches wider and rides around 1-1.5 inches higher. The hatchback adds a ton of extra cargo space, the rear seats have more room, the frunk is deeper, there are two under storage compartments, the glass roof is larger.

According to Tesla, I'll be getting my Y this month. (March) My ordered Y is: Long Range All-Wheel Drive Performance Red Multi-Coat Paint 19’’ Gemini Wheels All Black Premium Interior Five Seat Interior Autopilot Full Self-Driving Capability. I've never owned a Tesla, but I'm on my second Volt. Seems to me, Tesla doesn't need to pay sales people because every Tesla owner I know is selling it every time they talk about it.

On the 5 seat configuration, will the second row seats sit on rails? Will the second row seats have the ability to recline? What is the cargo capacity on the extra cargo space behind the second row seats? Will it have a cargo cover like the MS?

Why do you think the performance option is free? I know it lowers the range by 35 miles but you get more at $0 cost???

I think it’s that range loss. They want to be able to offer the higher price point for people who still want the best range.

I currently drive a 2017 Chevy Bolt, because I needed a car and the 3 wasn’t ready. Love the EV. No gas stations. No oil changes. A bit of as hassle on trips out of town, which still suffer from the absence of a good charger network and and quicker charges when one does find a fast charger. Next car (2 more years) is likely Tesla Y. For all the great reasons noted in this program. Thanks!
Ryan Shaw

I know the tesla Y is a suv. So it’s got more hight little bigger. But if it was a normal car with the hatch the small front the lines it looks a little like the prius.. everybody hates that prius and found it the most ugly and uncool car. So it would be not fair that now everybody would love this model Y in the future.. yes i have the 2012 prius.. i’m not like everybody i gues..

Do you know if the camera set up on the Model 3 would allow for a "Bird's Eye View" and also for the ability to turn on the front camera when driving low speeds (such as parking)? This feature would exactly mimic the rear view camera. Please look at these features on a Nissan Leaf. I traded in my 2019 Leaf for a Model 3 and I really miss these features that I loved. The Model 3 Distance Marker feature is great, but a front camera view (which shows the bumper of the car) is much more accurate and also would show broken glass, other small objects and gives you the ability to see exactly where the front painted line of the parking space is located.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin

@Ryan Shaw Thanks so much Ryan. You are amazing and I'm Subscribing to your Channel right now (also recommending your Channel to the NYS Tesla Club - www.tocnys.org/service-provider-profile?spid=52934578). I have been tweeting to Elon for months and he never replies (LOL)! Also, my recommendations on Twitter to every Tesla Motor Club and Tesla dedicated Twitter Account go ignored. My other recommendation is to have the Distance mileage and Energy percentage remaining displayed simultaneously! It's annoying and a safety distraction to go back and forth while driving. Most other EVs have this feature.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
I think it would allow that view if tesla added it. That view is the way multiple cameras are combined and I’m sure they have the coverage to add it via software. I would like more access to the Model 3/Y cameras on the screen since it has 7 cameras. Wish you could actively see a live feed of any

Yes, the FSD software does not integrate/include recognizing traffic lights and stop signs as part of driving by itself, but I think it would have been worthwhile for you to mention that Model 3's produced after August 2019 actually do recognize traffic lights and stop signs. In addition, the software picks up whether the light is on green or red and other road roadside things like garbage cans. I think it's relevant to mention this because it proves that the promise is not a pipe dream and shows that the technology is getting closer for these to function under FSD. The Traffic Light detection is about 90% effective (in my estimation) and this includes the detection of the color. I use the feature now for times when a direct sun view makes it almost impossible to look at the Traffic Light and the car lets me know when the light turns green. This is actually safer than you might think because you can see on the car Display when it changes from red to green. In the small percentage of time that the feature does not work properly, no color is displayed. The traffic cone feature seems 100% accurate.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Yeah that’s very true, and absolutely something I’ll mention when I make a full guide inside the car and get some footage of that happening. Glad to hear that feature works well for you!

RANGE is the most important R and D problem to address...!!!! Let's chill on the constant Autonomy talk!!!....if I bought a 50K Tesla I want to frikin drive it...not sit back and hope it works. The electric car revolution is awesome, but the autonomous evolution is not on any ones minds accept the corporations who can replace their workers with AI drivers!!
Ryan Shaw

DAMON LEE couldn’t disagree more. Range is #1, but autonomy is a huge revolution that most drivers will want, and one of the main reasons I’m getting a Tesla

G-Force 1. Tesla owners love these features, especially when charging. 2. It does not take the place of any operational systems, nor does it take up the space those systems need. 3. It’s not immature, and again owners love it

79 years old with knee problems. Can not get out of most of the low sport cars. I need a measurement of the distance from the seat sitting area where you plant your bottom to the ground out side the car on the tesla model Y. This should be with the seat at the top of it's adjustable height. Can't order until I know I can get in and out. Hope with the higher seats and ground clearance makes it easy. In need about 20 inches or more from seat to pavement out side the door. My dodge caravan gives me 29 inches and I can swing sideways plant my feet on the ground and stand up just fine. Thanks Bill

I don't know, if you try to take any long trip you're going to have to wait in line at a lot of the supercharger stations. I think here in Vegas there's a very limited supply. Still, this is new technology and there's always a price for early adopters. In ten years these electric cars will be much more affordable and easier to charge on long trips.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Eric Haynes I agree that electric cars will be more affordable and easier on long trips, but currently, waiting in line for a supercharger is rare. I’ve talked to many people who have never had to wait in a line. The only real problematic lines we saw were in CA over the holidays

Can i put different rims on the Model Y? Like Performance rims that Tesla doesn't provide. If you can will you lose mileage? Also what about tires? I drive a lot so i know ill go through some tires. Price of tires? Can i go to my local tire shop and have them replace Tesla tires with ease? Thanks again....have to convince the wife in purchasing a Y!!! Wish me luck
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
You can do all sorts of stuff, but you might lose some range depending on the rims. For tire replacement, you need to make sure that the shop knows how to service a tesla without damaging the battery that covers the bottom of the car, but other than that it should be fairly easy to replace them. Normal tires. Thanks for watching! Good luck convincing the wife!

Hey Ryan, hope you're having a good work week. So, today I decided I was going to place an order for the Model Y using your Referral Code.................Guess what? I couldn't use it because Tesla is not allowing folks to place order for Model Y using a referral link. I called the local Tesla store here in Colorado and the person I spoke with confirmed it. He said I can still place the order, and then email him my Order number. He will then make sure you and I get the 1K Super charger miles if/when Tesla decides to reinstate the referral for Model Y. When you ordered yours, did you use a referral link?

It's so frustrating that Tesla isn't giving any sort of realistic timeline for people that order the car today. It seems like a good strategy to just steal $100 from you! I need a new car but no way I can wait for 6 months+.

I don’t know how many people are skipping the $7000 autopilot unlock, so that $51K ends up being around $60K. Source: I spec’ed these out yesterday

Tesla , Rivian, etc are not telling you everything. Remember electrical parts are super expensive
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Reggie Rendon but they last. I haven’t heard of many expensive repairs happening on Tesla’s, especially with the warranty that’s included. Out of warranty they might be more expensive parts, but they are less likely to need repair

We ordered the long range rear wheel Y when you could back in early January and paid a $2500 deposit. That model has since been pulled and we noticed you didn’t mention it in your video. So we’re in limbo and would love to hear what your thoughts are on that.

Can you show some review on how comfortable is the 2nd row seat of a Model Y? I just ordered an AWD Blue without 3rd row seats. I am hoping that the 2nd row seats would have some reclining and comfortable for long drives.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Unfortunately we don't have many photos or videos of the 2nd row at this point, but I'll be sure to share as soon as I see them.

Oh! Hadn’t noticed that the rear seat with 3 separate sections is a white seat only thing. Hope that trickle down to the black interior. I will ruin the white seats in like 2 days, but would find the center only lay down mode useful.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Geno It’s actually possible that it’s all seats, and that’s an issue on Tesla’s website www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-y-2nd-row-seats-practicality/

I have a Model Y on order. I don't really want the car. The whole charging thing is a pain in the ass. The cars are unreliable and keeping the thing long enough to justify the price will cost tens of thousands in repairs. But I'll be dead before Toyota gets round to autonomous driving.

@Ryan Shaw Model S: DU $8,000, battery $12,000, strut set $6,000, MCU $3,400. Can do a lot of oil changes for that sort of money.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Interesting that you’re only reason for getting the car is Autonomous driving, however, every point you listed is incorrect. Charging is very easy, and more convenient than gas the majority of the time. On a long road trip it can be a little more difficult, but supercharging makes it easy. Tesla’s are very reliable, and costs for repairs are next to nothing when compared to a gasoline vehicle. There is no oil to change, no transmission, no timing belt, nothing that a normal engine has because it does not have an engine. Additionally, brake pads last longer. Not sure where you’re getting your info... cleantechnica.com/2019/10/30/bloomberg-tesla-model-3-survey-part-i-quality-reliability/

The real question is.....what color? Remember white is $1000 less and red is a $2000 increase!

Ryan Shaw White usually shows dirt more than blue or red but less than black. I'm going either white , black or blue but haven't decided and hence haven't ordered yet!

EveryDay Carry well white is included, or it’s $1000 less than all colors other than the red. I’m going white, but I also love blue and red!

“If your commute to work and back is close to 280 miles, I wouldn’t go for the one thats 280 miles, I would get a buffer with 315 miles.” Me personally, I would go for a new house, apartment or job that saves me at least 3 hours of my daily life in a car 😂😅

AWD long range, Red, White interior. Be foolish not to get self driving, right? I'm old and practical, I don't need a dragster for busy, dangerous public roads. If all vehicles were already self driving then I might get a performance unit. Let the robot race the other robots as I sit back and laugh, not there yet.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
Very nice! I personally think you can hold off on self driving and add the update later if you prefer, because autopilot already has a ton of great features included. But I also think that once it’s feature complete (and even where it’s at now for me) it’ll be worth it

With already having a Model 3 LR Rwd, it's a tough sell for the Model Y even though I would love one. I'll probably wait until they're out for a while so I can compare for myself to see if I feel it will be worth it. Also, put a reservation down on a Cybertruck that we don't really need but that may complicate my decision also. If I bought a Y it would be the LR Awd in standard color with the only addition being FSD.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Shaw 8 oy oldin
JeffnReno ahh yeah, tough decisions especially since the Model 3 is already paid for
JeffnReno
JeffnReno 8 oy oldin
@Ryan Shaw I love my Model 3 but we also have a Rogue AWD for those times when the snow gets deep. Don't want to use the Tesla as a snow plow since it's so low. Getting in and out of the higher vehicle is much easier since I'm not as flexible at 66 yo, 6'4", & 310 lbs. as I used to be. If we had a Model Y, we could do with only one vehicle instead of 2 but the Model 3 works fantastic 90% of the time and it's paid for.
Ryan Shaw
